When running a slideshow (2000/2003:Slide Show > View Show) or (2007/2010:Slide Show > Slide Show from Beginning or from Current Slide) it can be difficult access a different file or program without quitting the slideshow. When faced with this situation most people quit the slideshow, access the other item and then have to get the slideshow started again, hopefully on the same slide. Using the "Alt-Tab" technique avoids the hassle having to quit the slideshow.
The "Alt-Tab" technique works on all computers all the time. It actually has nothing to do with PowerPoint. It's built into the computer. But I've found it most useful during PowerPoint shows.
On newer Macs (Command-Tab) and Windows (WindowsKey-Tab) may do the same thing in a "3-D" look. The WindowsKey is the one usually between Ctrl and Alt with the Windows Logo.
The technique is this:
Hold the "Alt" key down with your thumb and touch the "Tab" key. Keep holding the Alt key.
You should see a "bar" in the center of the screen indicating all of the programs/files open at that moment, plus the desktop.
Each time "Tab" is touched it moves to the next item.
When you get to the item you want to see release the "Alt" key.

"Wiggle" the mouse and choose a pen tool. Draw on the slide. Click mouse, enter, etc. to move on.
